SCOTT AIR FORCE BASE, Ill. – One of the area's biggest employers is cutting nearly 300 positions.
Thousands of jobs will be cut across the entire U.S. Air Force; 292 of those positions will be cut from Scott Air Force Base.
A spokesperson for the Air force says the cuts are a mixture of military and civilian positions, with some coming from middle management. Officials will ask people to voluntarily take early retirement before moving ahead with forced layoffs.
The cuts will happen during the next year, though an exact timetable has not been determined.
