ST. LOUIS – Breakfast will be provided at no cost to all Ritenour students, kindergarten through 12th grade, for the upcoming 2014-2015 school year.
This free breakfast will be available 20 minutes before the start of each school day and is offered at each of Ritenour's six elementary schools, two middle schools, and high school.
The National School Lunch Program and School Breakfast Program is providing the free breakfasts to the schools as a way to promote a healthy way start to the school day.
Patty Poretti, Ritenour's director of child nutrition services, believes that offering breakfast will provide Ritenour families an easier way to start the school day, along with a healthy way to start the day.
According to the district, research indicates students who eat breakfast do better in school than those who skip breakfast each morning. These students have fewer discipline problems, fewer tardies, improved math and reading skill, and fewer visits to the school nurse.
Ritenour's new school year starts on August 14.
