ST. LOUIS - Civil rights pioneer Frankie Muse Freeman received the Right Arm of St. Louis Award Thursday night from the Regional Chamber and Growth Association.

The RCGA hands out the award to people who have made outstanding contributions to the St. Louis region.

The 97-year-old became the first female director of the U.S. Civil Rights Commission in 1964, and remained on the commission for the next 16 years.
