ST. LOUIS – Barnes-Jewish Hospital will start emergency room renovations Wednesday.

Patients will wait in a temporary building outside the Charles F. Knight Emergency and Trauma Center. Space is limited, and patients are asked to bring no more than one guest.

The renovations will make the 14-year-old emergency department more efficient, improve flow and navigation, and be more comfortable than the previous space. The department treats 95,000 emergency patients each year.

Extra staff will be on hand to help patients and guests throughout the transition.

Renovations are expected to be complete by mid-September.
