CHESTER, Ill. - Derrick Twardoski, 34, has been found guilty of first-degree murder in connection to a house fire that killed four children in Percy last year.
Twardoski waived his right to a jury trial and appeared before Judge Richard Brown at the Randolph County Courthouse in Chester, Illinois. Judge Brown was presented a stipulation of facts sufficient to convict Twardoski of setting fire to a home in Percy.
The fire took the lives of Ethan Owen, 12, Kailey Owen, 9, Brandon Owen, 5, and Landon Owen, 5. Brandon and Landon were twins. The children's father, mother, and an 18-year-old girl escaped the fire unharmed.
Authorities did not release any other details about the crime.
Twardoski remains at Randolph County Jail until his sentencing hearing on Oct. 3 where he faces a maximum of 60 years in prison.
