ST. LOUIS - Protesters felt like it was safer to protest along West Florissant Thursday night.

Missouri State Highway Patrol Captain Ronald Johnson was embraced by the crowd. Many protesters cheered for him as he passed by.

They continued to chant, "No justice, No peace."

Church leaders who have been at the protests since Sunday also helped monitor the crowd. Many residents said they felt better because they were not facing police in riot gear.

West Florissant was still open to traffic.
