CLAYTON, Mo. - Protesters marched in Clayton Tuesday calling for the resignation of St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCulloch.
McCulloch said he would step aside if Governor Jay Nixon ordered him.
The group of community organizers marching at the justice center said they have a new strategy. They said they plan to return to Clayton,in the heart of the business district, with more and more people everyday.
Some protesters estimate there could be up to 3,000 participants eventually and said they doubt tear gas would be used.
Gov. Nixon released the following statement Tuesday night:
"From the outset, I have been clear about the need to have a vigorous prosecution of this case, and that includes minimizing any potential legal uncertainty. I am not asking St. Louis County Prosecutor Bob McCullough [sic] to recuse himself from this case. There is a well-established process by which a prosecutor can recuse themselves from a pending investigation, and a special prosecutor be appointed. Departing from this established process could unnecessarily inject legal uncertainty into this matter and potentially jeopardize the prosecution."
