FERGUSON, Mo. - The rain may have helped contribute to the calm atmosphere for most of the evening Wednesday.

Tensions were just beginning to rise on W. Florissant Avenue when the storm brought heavy rain and lightning. Protesters immediately ran for cover under awnings or inside businesses. When the rains let up, protestors came back out, but in smaller numbers and with a more peaceful demeanor.

They also obeyed the rule to not gather in one place, and instead marched up and down the street chanting words of support for Michael Brown.

The police matched that calm with their response, standing among the crowds and talking with protesters and members of the press.
