NEW MINDEN, Ill. - A family who stepped up to help others following last month's deadly tornado in southeastern Illinois now needs help itself.

The Tippin family lost their home in the tornado and had been staying with the Malones. The Tippins moved out just days ago. But following a massive fire Thursday, the Malone family has been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs.

The Illinois State Fire Marshal is investigating what started the blaze and destroyed the Malone's home and everything inside.

One of the Malones' four children was home sick from school Thursday, but she escaped safely. No one was hurt.

The family is confident the community will step up to help, just as it did for its neighbors.

A fund has been set up for the family. People can make donations to the Malone Family Benefit Fund at the Farmers and Merchants National Bank in Nashville, Illinois. Checks should be mailed to 120 W. St. Louis St, Nashville, IL 62263.
