CHICAGO (AP) - A 19-year-old suburban Chicago man is being held without bond after being charged with first-degree murder for the Christmas Eve shooting death of a pregnant teenager.
Darius D. Marshall is the third person charged in the slaying of 17-year-old Eva Casara. He's also accused of attempted armed robbery.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports Marshall appeared in a Markham courtroom Thursday. His lawyer told the newspaper Marshall plans to plead not guilty.
Marshall is charged along with his two brothers, 16-year-old Anthony Lee and 21-year-old Diante Lamont Coakley. A prosecutor said Thursday all three fired at a vehicle in Dolton during a drug deal went wrong, killing Casara who was inside.
Casara was 5 1/2 months pregnant. Her baby survived, but is struggling for life in a hospital.
