SWANSEA, Ill. (AP) - Investigators say a fight between a retired southwestern Illinois state trooper and his son led to the older man's death two days before his son killed himself.

Authorities were looking for 36-year-old Jarad Daughtrey to question him about his father's death. They tracked him to a Fairview Heights motel on Wednesday. Investigators tell the Belleville News-Democrat that's where Jarad Daughtrey shot himself to death.

Investigators say 61-year-old David Daughtrey was found dead in the Swansea home he shared with his son on Tuesday.

St. Clair County deputy coroner Danny Haskenhoff says an autopsy Wednesday didn't reveal how the father died. Toxicology tests are pending.

Investigators say the Daughtreys had a physical altercation Monday that contributed to the elder Daughtrey's death that day.
