ROXANA, Ill. (KSDK) - A lockdown at Roxana Junior and Senior High School was lifted Tuesday afternoon after police confirmed previous reports of shots being fired were false.

The Roxana Community Unit School District sent a message to parents explaining that a junior high student sent a text message to a family member saying shots had been fired at the high school. That prompted the family member to call 911.

Police responded and swept the building, but found no evidence of any threat. The student who sent the text message has been located and is in custody. As of 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, no charges have been filed.

Authorities don't know if the text message was an April Fool's joke, but investigators are looking into the possibility.

Classes are resuming on the campuses, and students were dismissed at 2:40 p.m. -- the normal time. No extracurriculars will be held Tuesday evening.
