ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. – Three people were airlifted to a St. Louis area hospital for life-threatening injuries sustained in an accident Tuesday morning on Illinois Route 4.

The accident happened around 9:30 a.m. at Jefferson Street in St. Clair County.

Illinois State Police say one person was driving a maroon Chevrolet Impala south on Illinois 4 when that person lost control of the vehicle and drove onto the right shoulder of the road, overcorrected, and pulled the wheel to the left, striking a tan Buick LeSabre head-on.

The names of the victims have not been released.
