PATOKA, Ill. (KSDK) – US 51 just north of Pakota has been reopened following a crude oil leak Sunday, according to the Illinois Department of Transportation.

Marion County Sgt. Kevin Cripps said there was a breach in one of the lines at the Patoka Tank Farm Crude Oil Storage Facility, which stores oil for multiple agencies, including Marathon, Amoco, Exxon Mobile, and Plaines. The leak allowed crude oil to seep into the ground, which then surfaced at a roadside ditch off US 51.

IDOT will do additional work at a later date to alleviate residual environmental concerns.
