LITCHFIELD, Ill. - The Illinois State Police is looking for the men responsible for posing as state troopers and pulling over a motorist, robbing, and eventually tying the victim in his own vehicle.
According to Trooper Jeffrey Yenchko, an ISP spokesman, the incident took place Tuesday night after 10 p.m. at milepost 63 along Interstate 55. When the responding trooper arrived at the scene, he discovered the driver bound and gagged with duct tape.
Once freed, the driver said he was pulled over by a dark SUV with Illinois plates and a red light on the dashboard. Three men in masks got out of the SUV and held the driver at gunpoint.
The suspects stole approximately $5,500 in cash and other personal items before tying the victim up, Yenchko said.
Illinois State Police has not identified any suspects or motive for the crime. The investigation is ongoing.
