O'FALLON, Ill. - Detectives with the O'Fallon Police Department are asking for the public's help in their search for a serial arsonist.

Three homes—all within a mile of each other—were set ablaze in southeast O'Fallon within the past few weeks: a house in the 1200 block of North Yale and a residence in the 1200 block of Affirm Drive were torched Saturday night going into Sunday morning.

Investigators said the incidents happened sometime between 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. They believe the fires went out on their own. A third house was set on fire July 17 in the 500 block of Rebecca.

In all three incidents, investigators believe an accelerant was used to ignite the vinyl on the facades of the houses. No was injured in the fires, but neighbors remain scared. Police have few leads on these cases; no suspect has been identified.

No evidence exists indicating the arsonist knew who lived in the houses, detectives said.

The O'Fallon Police Department is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leads to an arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the arsons.
