The future's hazy for a California high schooler who took prom fundraising too far.

Last year, 18-year-old Saira Munoz of Yuba, Calif., did not have enough money to buy a dress for her prom, so she employed her fellow students and held a bake sale — but laced her brownies with marijuana.

The plan went awry when a student got sick from one of the brownies and had to be rushed to the hospital, CBS Sacramento reports.

Munoz, now 19, was sentenced to four years of probation and nine days in jail with time served. Repercussions could be even more serious for the teen.

Munoz has been living in the USA with temporary permission since 2000. Her crime was reported to the federal government, so she could be deported back to her home country of Mexico.
