(CNN) - NASA is backtracking on a decision to ban Chinese researchers from an upcoming conference.
NASA's management apparently misinterpreted a security law when making the decision. The law in question prevents NASA funds from being used to collaborate with China or to host Chinese visitors at its facilities.
But representative Frank Wolf, who drafted the law, says it applies to meetings and activities with the communist government, not individuals.
NASA has since sent a letter to Chinese scientists inviting them back to the conference. The agency did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
