RIO RANCHO, N.M. - A Rio Rancho, N.M. teacher accused of making racist remarks toward an African American student will return to his classroom, but the student will not.

Cleveland High School allowed students to dress as Christmas characters on Friday. Christopher Rougier, who is African American, dressed as Santa Claus.

Michael Rougier, Christopher's father, said that a teacher approached the freshman and said, "Don't you know Santa Claus is white?"

Rio Rancho Public Schools says the teacher has apologized to the family and was disciplined, but not removed from class.
