HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) - A 16-year-old male student is to be arraigned on murder charges in the fatal stabbing of a classmate at their high school on the day of the junior prom.
Police haven't released the suspect's name, but people have identified him as Chris Plaskon, a friend of the victim. Plaskon's attorney says he's being held in a hospital under psychiatric evaluation and will not appear at his arraignment on Monday in New Haven. He says he expects Plaskon eventually to be charged as an adult.
The attack on 16-year-old Maren Sanchez occurred Friday at Jonathan Law High School in Milford. The medical examiner's office has ruled that she died from wounds to her torso and neck.
The school will remain closed on Monday and a memorial service is planned.
