A late addition to the president's schedule: A meeting on the problems at the Veterans Affairs Department.
Obama meets mid-morning with Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Rob Nabors, who has been assigned to look into allegations that delays at VA hospitals have contributed to the deaths of patients.
VA officials have also been accused of altering records to make it appear that wait times have been reduced.
Various accusations have been leveled at VA facilities in Arizona, Pennsylvania, Wyoming, Georgia, Missouri, Texas, and Florida.
Nabors travels to Phoenix later Thursday to meet with VA officials there.
From the Associated Press:
"Nabors was meeting Tuesday in Washington with representatives of several veterans' organizations, including the American Legion and Disabled American Veterans, among others. He will meet Thursday with leadership at the Phoenix Veterans Affairs Medical Center, including with interim director Steve Young,"
