SAN ANTONIO - U.S. Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, the former prisoner of war who is undergoing rehabilitation following his release from Taliban captivity has been moved to an outpatient status.

According to a statement from an Army spokesperson, Bergdahl's medical status has shifted from inpatient care at Brooke Army Medical Center to continued reintegration and medical care as an outpatient on Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston.

Bergdahl continues to receive debriefings and counseling, according to the statement.

Bergdahl's specific location was not released.

Bergdahl was transported from a U.S. military hospital in Germany to San Antonio in the early morning hours of Friday, June 13.

Bergdahl was held captive by the Taliban for nearly 5 years after he went missing from his post in Afghanistan in 2009.

He was released May 31 in exchange for five Taliban prisoners who were being held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
