PHOENIX — A child under the age of 6-years-old who had been missing since March 2012 was found buried in the yard of an Arizona home, police said.
Two people were arrested in connection with the case, but their relation to the child was not immediately available Thursday evening.
Police in Thatcher, Ariz., are treating the case as a potential homicide.
A statement issued by Thatcher Police Chief Shaffen Woods said his department received a missing persons report from the Arizona Department of Child Safety last week.
Investigators were told that the child was believed to be deceased and buried in the yard of a home in Thatcher. Police found the remains in a search of the property on Wednesday, Woods said.
The body was transferred to the Pima County Medical Examiner for identification and further investigation, Woods said.
