CONROE, Texas — Authorities are searching for a father who is accused of abandoning his injured infant son at the scene of a rollover accident Sunday night north of Houston, Texas Department of Public Safety authorities said.
According to the safety department, the rollover happened around 10:30 p.m. in northern Montgomery County, Texas, when they received a call about that time of a single vehicle rollover. When emergency personnel arrived, they found a 5-month-old boy lying in the road face down and bleeding in Conroe, Texas.
The infant was taken to a hospital in Houston, but his condition has not been released.
Authorities said the child was ejected from a Ford Fusion, which was upside down about 20 feet away.
Investigators said that after an altercation between the child's father and mother, the father left with the baby in the Fusion traveling at a high rate of speed.
The father lost control of the car, with the Fusion leaving the road and striking a mailbox. The vehicle then began to flip, where it ended up on its roof, ejecting the child from the vehicle. A passerby found him.
The father left the scene of the accident before the mother arrived in a separate car. He has not been identified.
