WICHITA, Kan. - One of the foster parents of a 10-month-old girl who died after being left in a hot car has been arrested and charged. Police say the baby was left alone in the car for around two hours Thursday afternoon.

Police arrived to a house in the 1500 block of South Topeka around 6:30 p.m. After they got a call from a foster parent who told 911 a 10-month-old baby girl had been left in the car.

Authorities say say the little girl was in the car for 2 hours before her foster parents, a male couple, realized the little girl was still in the car. Now one of those men is in jail for aggravated child endangerment.

"It's just a booking right now. It doesn't mean he's charged with it or will be charged by the DA. We'll present those facts next week," said Lt. Todd Ojile.

The little girl's biological grandmother lives in Topeka and drove overnight when she heard about what happened.

"I come in town, I got here at four in the morning. I've been at the jail waiting for some answers. I go see the investigators at 8 o'clock I just want to see her. They don't know if I can see her or not, I want to know what happened to my other two grandchildren," said Cindy Poe.

Police say the two men adopted two children and fostered four others including that 10-month-old girl. Police say the couple was in the process of trying to adopt her.

The grandmother says her two other granddaughters were also fostered by the two men and police say they're now in protective custody.

"Like I've said before baby deaths are extremely challenging. They're tough for detectives to work. But we've got to look at all the facts of if this what accidental or why it was left in there how it was left in there," said

While police look for facts the little girl's grandma says she just wants one last goodbye.

"I'm going to miss her. That's going to be the most thing. When I look at them two and think of her, luckily I have pictures on my phone that I put on my laptop when I held her when she was born in the hospital. That's all I have, I just want to see her. I just want to hold her you know for the last time," she said.
