A suspect in a child molestation case that was recently featured on CNN's "The Hunt" was shot and killed Monday in a gun battle in Manhattan Monday that left three officers wounded.
The host of the CNN program, John Walsh, said the two U.S. Marshals and a New York City police officer were responding to a "cyber tip" provided to "The Hunt" on the whereabouts of the suspect, Charles Mozdir.
The three officers shot during an exchange of gunfire were in stable condition.
"We pray everything we are hearing is true and that these officers will be OK in the long run," said New York Mayor Bill de Blasio.
Mozdir, 32, was wanted on child molestation charges after failing to appear at an arraignment after his arrest in San Diego County in 2012.
"That's one more low-life who's off the streets," Walsh said on CNN.
The officers, who belonged to a federal fugitive task force, were attempting to arrest Mozdir at a smoke shop near West Fourth Street and the Avenue of the Americas in Manhattan's West Village, according to Polce Commissioner William Bratton, The New York Times reports..
