U.S. Senator Dick Durbin, the Democrat from Illinois NewsChannel 5's Mike Bush Wednesday that he's "fed up" with House Republicans who haven't called for a vote on immigration reform.
Both parties agree that it's become a humanitarian crisis with tens of thousands of children crossing our borders, and Republicans want to eliminate the hearings that Central America migrants now get.
Tuesday night, Republican Rep. Ann Wagner from Missouri said we need to compassionately
send these children back to their home countries to be reunited with their families. But Durbin says that can't be the only option.
"Each case should be considered on its own merits. Five young girls about 14 years of age walked into the room where I was carrying their babies. They'd all been victims of rape in Honduras. Sending them back to face to rape or possibly worse for them and their babies I don't want to be party to that," said Durbin.
President Obama says he needs $3.7 billion in emergency spending for detention, more judges and hearings space.
