Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks said Monday that Democrats are pushing a political agenda that amounts to a "war on whites."

Appearing Monday on conservative commentator Laura Ingraham's radio program, Brooks — responding to a reporter's suggestion that the GOP is alienating minority voters and being seen as "the party of white people" — said:

This is a part of the war on whites that's being launched by the Democratic Party. And the way in which they are launching this war is by claiming that whites hate everybody else. It's a part of the strategy that Barack Obama implemented in 2008 continued in 2012 where he divides us all on race, on sex, greed, envy, class warfare — all those kinds of things.

Ingraham suggested that the notion of a "war on whites" was "a little out there," adding that Brooks' "phraseology might not be the best choice."

But Brooks, a staunch opponent of Obama's efforts to provide legal status to immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children, defended his word choice.

"That is in effect what they are doing though, that is the political game."

Brooks said he believes illegal immigration has a negative impact on all Americans regardless of race and gender, and that the first mandate for any nation is to defend its borders. He said Democratic Party policies are responsible for the flood of children arriving at the U.S./Mexico border, because "they are telling the kids 'we will reward you if you come.'"
