ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - Officials with the Missouri Highway Patrol have identified the 61-year-old man killed in a head-on collision Thursday evening in southwestern St. Louis County.

Troopers say a pick-up truck traveling eastbound on Route 66 east of Hillview Drive swerved to avoid an animal-- believed to be a deer -- in the middle of the road. The driver lost control, and careened into the westbound lanes of Route 66, slamming into an incoming SUV.

One of the SUV's passengers -- 61-year-old Dennis Binkley of Pacific -- was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver, 65-year-old Linda Binkley, was seriously injured and is hospitalized at Mercy Hospital in Creve Coeur.

The man driving the out-of-control pick-up -- 58-year-old Michael Ferguson of Robertsville -- and 19-year-old Darby Ferguson also suffered minor injuries in the crash. They were also taken to Mercy Hospital for treatment.

No additional information was immediately available.
