ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Memorial Day weekend numbers increased across the board in highway crashes and arrests, including a total of eight fatalities, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.

According to numbers released Tuesday, Missouri Highway Patrol investigated 295 crashes compared to 274 in 2013. This year's crashes also included 130 injuries, and troopers arrested 146 for driving while intoxicated.

Missouri Highway Patrol investigated eight boat crashes, but no one died in those accidents.

In the St. Louis metropolitan area, three people died during the weekend.

Daniel Nordin and Maude Nordin died in a St. Louis County car accident Saturday and were among those who died during the holiday weekend. Their car went off the road, hit a tree and overturned in an embankment.

Gary French, 17, also died after his car crossed the center line, hit a car and traveled off the road and overturned.

More specifically, locally, Missouri Highway Patrol arrested 31 for DWI and investigated 72 car crashes. There were more than 635 speeding incidents, according to the local numbers.

No one in the fatality accidents wore a seat belt at the time, according to Missouri Highway Patrol.

Last year, Missouri Highway Patrol had six fatalities and arrested 129 for drunk driving.
