CASEYVILLE, Ill. - Interstate 255, just north of Interstate 64, in Illinois was closed in both directions Thursday morning due to downed power lines.
According to an Ameren spokesperson, a track hoe was digging alongside the interstate when it became tangled in the distribution line. The track hoe snapped the power pole and broke the cross arm of the second pole, knocking both power lines onto the interstate.
The power lines then sparked a small brush fire.
The track hoe operator was trapped in the machinery and suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The interstate was shut down for about an hour while crews removed the downed lines. Approximately 100 customers were without power, it was later restored.
