MADISON COUNTY, Ill. – The driver involved in a fatal accident Wednesday morning along Interstate 70 near Troy has been identified as 20-year-old Jacob Dey.
Illinois State Police say at 1:50 a.m. Dey was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Impala westbound when he swerved onto the right shoulder at milepost 18. He over-corrected and drove into the left lane.
A semi-truck driving in the left lane was hit by the Impala, which caused the car to spin, stopping perpendicular to the road in the right lane of traffic. That semi continued driving without stopping.
ISP says a second semi was driving in the right lane as the Malibu came to rest, and struck the passenger side of the vehicle. The car and truck were pushed off to the right side of the road. The truck overturned in a ditch.
Dey was pronounced dead at the scene. The 54-year-old driver of the second semi-truck was not injured.
Westbound I-70 was shut down for seven hours.
State police continue to investigate the accident.
