It's hammer time. Again.
After saving the world in The Avengers, Marvel Comics' resident thunder god returns for another solo adventure in the sequel Thor: The Dark World, and the first trailer has the blond superhero (Chris Hemsworth) taking on new bad guys, bringing back old foes and reconnecting with his main squeeze, Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).
Thor has returned home to his mystical home realm of Asgard, but an ancient race of Dark Elves led by Malekith (Christopher Eccleston) has risen and threatens the Nine Realms, including Earth. So, Thor brings Jane to Asgard to keep her safe - and starts a little bit of a love triangle with Thor's fellow warrior, Sif (Jaimie Alexander).
The hero also looks to a surprising fellow for help: his villainous brother, Loki (Tom Hiddleston), who was last seen in The Avengers teaming with an alien armada to rule Earth. After having been smashed by Hulk and the other superheroes, Loki - looking haggard, with long hair right out of a European metal band - is imprisoned but he could be a key to taking out the Dark Elves.
Director Alan Taylor, a Game of Thrones veteran, brings a load of fantasy action to the Thor sequel, as evidenced in the trailer when Thor wields his mighty hammer, Mjolnir, against an army of baddies, and with one fell swoop they all go flying due to the weapon's power.
Out Nov. 8, Thor: The Dark World also stars a returning Anthony Hopkins as Thor's father Odin and a cast that includes Idris Elba, Ray Stevenson, Zachary Levi, Rene Russo, Stellan Skarsgard and Kat Dennings.
