BOSTON (KSDK) – Barbie Long, a 17-year-old skater who grew up in Affton – got the skating bug when she was four years old while at a birthday party at an ice rink in Webster Groves.

She placed 10th Thursday night in the women's short program of the U.S. Figure Skating Olympic trials. It was her first time skating at that level, and admitted that the cameras and bright lights made her nervous.

The women compete on Saturday in the free skate event – which Long considers her stronger program.

If you live in the St. Louis-area and like steak, you may have met Barbie and not even known it. Her parents own Sam's Steakhouse, right near Grant's Farm.

You can watch Barbie as well as Gracie Gold – another local skater – on NewsChannel 5 during our Saturday coverage of the event from 2 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 10 p.m.
