ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – The St. Louis Rams have fired defensive coordinator Tim Walton, according to a news release, and NFL sources say the plan is to hire Gregg Williams to fill the position.

Walton joined the Rams for the 2013 season after spending four years with the Detroit Lions as a secondary coach. The Rams went 7-9 this year, coming in fourth in the NFC West.

"I would like to thank Tim for his hard work and contributions to our defense," Rams head coach Jeff Fisher said in a news release. "I wish him well in the future."

You may recall that the Rams had originally hired Williams for the job back in 2011, before he was suspended by the NFL for his role in the "bounty" scandal in New Orleans.
