ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - While the world is talking about T.J. Oshie, one of the first people he wanted to talk to after Saturday's big game is back here at home.
Newly engaged, and with a baby on the way, Oshie's fiancé says the only word she can use to describe the recent developments, is 'surreal.' Lauren Cosgrove says she had made plans today to watch the game, eat breakfast, then maybe run a few errands. But after that game winning goal, her phone started ringing off the hook, and hasn't stopped since. Especially after Oshie said in an interview he was officially off the market.
Lauren and T.J. Are both from Minnesota, but met while visiting friends in North Dakota. They've been together ever since.
"He really is the most genuine, caring guy that I've ever met," Lauren said.
So, she agreed to move to St. Louis with him. And last year, the couple found out they're expecting a baby girl. T.J. proposed on their third anniversary, right before he left for Sochi.
"I wasn't expecting it!" Lauren said.
She also wasn't expecting what she would watch play out on her T.V. screen early Saturday, surrounded by her sister and a few close friends.
"We were just all on the edge of seats, we couldn't contain our excitement. I actually joked with my friends, I might go into labor!" Lauren said.
And after the game winning goal, her phone started buzzing. One of those calls was from T.J.
"He was like, 'Oh I hope this all blows over pretty quick. It's exciting for him but this isn't really him, he's so low key," Lauren said.
But, she says he is enjoying it while it lasts… especially when it comes to becoming America's latest heartthrob.
"He's been a heartthrob for a while here in St. Louis at least, but yeah I'm sure he's enjoying every minute of it," joked Lauren.
And she says, if she wasn't eight months pregnant, she'd be in Sochi, enjoying it right along with him. Although, she thinks he'll be bringing her home a very special souvenir.
"I definitely have faith in Team USA and I think they have a shot at the gold," Lauren said.
Lauren says there was a little concern that she could go into labor before T.J. gets home. But her doctors are confident she'll make it to her St. Patrick's Day due date.
