The Francis Howell Vikings showcased what has them ranked as the top large school in the area by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. The lineup is loaded with big time hitters and the pitching staff is hard to hit.
Tanner Kulpa was pulling double duty on Tuesday, not only taking the mound but also hitting in the nine spot. He got the scoring started with a RBI single in the second to give Howell a 1-0 lead.
The Vikings broke the game open in the third inning when the heart of the order made the Spartans pay. Elijah Dilday delivered a RBI double and Nic Perkins drove one off the wall that plated two more. Ryan Grantham added a 2 RBI single and the Vikings scored six in the frame to turn a 1-0 lead in to a 7-0 lead.
The Spartans fought back in the fourth though and put a three spot up to get back in to the game. That was as close as they would get however, as Kulpa shut the door. He went 6 1/3 allowed 2 earned runs and got the victory. Howell won, 7-3.
