Hoppertunity, the 6-1 second choice for Saturday's Kentucky Derby, will be scratched from the race, trainer Bob Baffert said Thursday.
Baffert said there was an issue with Hoppertunity's left front foot and he "didn't feel comfortable" with him running.
He said that he is hoping that it is just a bruise and that he can run in the Preakness. He is sending him to Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington to have it checked out.
The defection gives also-eligible Pablo Del Monte the opportunity to enter. If he runs, he will be put in the far outside No. 20 post position and will be No. 21 in the program.
Pablo Del Monte trainer Wesley Ward, who is a part-owner, said he has to confer with the other owners to decide if they want to run.
