ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – A former St. Louis Cardinals manager is up for entry into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Tony La Russa has been named as one of four managers nominated for entry into Cooperstown, NY. Bobby Cox, Joe Torre and Billy Martin were also nominated.
A total of 12 finalists were named for the ballot.
La Russa is ranked third all-time for wins among managers with a record of 2,728-2,365 in his 33 seasons as a manager. He managed the Cardinals for 16 years and received three National League pennants. He retired in 2011.
A 16-member Expansion Era panel will vote on the nominees and inductees will be announced Dec. 9. Any candidate who earns more than 75 percent of the vote will earn election into the National Baseball Hall of Fame.
Induction of those elected to the Hall of Fame will be July 27, 2014 in Cooperstown, NY.
