ST. LOUIS - Former Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols has withdrawn a lawsuit against retired player and former radio host Jack Clark after Clark retracted comments implying Pujols used performance enhancing drugs.

Clark first made the claims last August in the first week of co-hosting an afternoon sports talk radio show on WGNU 920 AM.

Pujols immediately denied the accusation and sued Clark for defamation in October.

In a statement, Clark said he has "no knowledge whatsoever" that Pujols ever used used illegal or banned drugs.

"I would like to address Albert Pujols' pending defamation lawsuit and reconfirm that I have no knowledge whatsoever that Mr. Pujols has ever used illegal or banned PEDs," Clark said. "I publicly retract my statements that Albert Pujols used such substances. During a heated discussion on air, I misspoke, and for that I sincerely apologize."

Pujols said he's accepted Clark's retraction and apology and will resolve the lawsuit.

Clark's radio show was cancelled shortly after the controversy began.
