ST. LOUIS – The St. Louis Cardinals have acquired Cleveland Indians pitcher Justin Masterson in exchange for Springfield (AA) outfielder James Ramsey.
Masterson, 26, will begin with the Cardinals Friday, and will play against the Milwaukee Brewers Saturday. He has an ERA of 5.51 in 19 starts and has pitched 98 innings. Earlier this month he had inflammation in his right knee and was put on the 15-day disabled list. On July 20 & 25 he made rehabilitation starts for Columbus (AAA).
Jamaican-born, Masterson stand 6 feet 6 inches tall and weighs 250 pounds. Last season he was an American League All-Star and ranked eighth in the league after striking out 195 batters.
