ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Gracie Gold has raised the bar of medal competition for the USA in figure skating after the first-ever "team figure skating" competition.

Within that team competition, Gold did the free skate and only one other free skater had a higher score than her.

That has raised expectations.

As soon as Gracie stepped off the ice Sunday night, the Missouri native was already focused on her upcoming individual competition.

Christine Brennan with USA Today says after last night's performance, Gold is a more confident and comfortable skater.

She was essentially hitting clean-up for the U.S. team Sunday night, and the way she came through Brennan says she has set herself up for at least a medal in next week's individual competition.

Gold is actually working with Michelle Kwan's former coach, and he says he working to make her a little less of a perfectionist.

He says he wants to take a little pressure off and have her be okay with "excellent."
