Costa Rica got past Greece in penalty kicks to advance to the quarterfinals, after hanging on with 10 men for much of the second half and all of extra time.

Los Ticos took the lead in the 52nd minute when Bryan Ruiz placed a low shot in the corner, but then went down a man when Oscar Durate earned his second yellow card in the 66th minute and was dismissed. Greece equalized in this 90th minute with a nice goal by Sokratis, and the teams played even until penalty kicks.

Everyone made their kick until Greece's fourth take, when Keylor Navas made a ridiculous save on Greece's Fanis Gekas to give Costa Rica an advantage in the shootout.

On the very next kick, Costa Rica's Michael UmaƱa roofed the ball emphatically to give Costa Rica a 5-3 win in the shootout and a trip to the quarterfinals, where the team will face the Netherlands.
