(KSDK) – It's only Day 2 and the men's side suffered two casualties of Top 10 players.

No. 3 ranked and Australian Open champion Stan Wawrinka fell to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of Spain, which is just mind blowing.

According to ESPN, he's the highest seed to lose in the French Open opening round since 2007 when Andy Roddick, ranked No.3 at the time, lost to Andreev.

Wawrinka beat fellow Swiss Roger Federer in Monte Carlo this year and struggled in Madrid and Rome, losing in the second round and third respectively. He's captured a total of three titles this year, though.

In most respects, Wawrinka was a favorite for the championship, and No. 1 Rafael Nadal and No. 2 Novak Djokovic might be breathing a little easier with him out of the tournament.

Only time be able to tell the story about what happened, but what's clear is that Wawrinka's game of 62 unforced errors and only 37 winners put a damper on his chances.

Earlier in the day, No. 9 Kei Nishikori also dropped his match in straight sets against Martin Klizan of Slovakia.

According to an Associated Press report, prior to the start of the French Open, Nishikori struggled with a lower back injury and hadn't fully recovered.

He made it to the fourth round of Roland Garros last year before losing to eventual champion Nadal.

It makes the occasion a bit more solemn as well as Nishikori became the first player from Japan to be ranked in the ATP's top 10 earlier this month.

The rest of the day appeared par for the course with Nadal making swift work of American Robby Ginepri (6-0, 6-3, 6-0).

Earlier in the day, Novak Djokovic struggled through rain and rain delays before winning his match against Joao Sousa (6-1, 6-2, 6-4).

Maria Sharapova also suffered a bit of a rain delay prior to her match, but she was on and off the court before anyone realized it in a straight sets win.

Other notable wins of the day included Dominika Cibulkova, Donald Young, Marin Cilic and Alize Cornet.

What to expect Day 3

First round matches continue through Tuesday with Ana Ivanovic taking the court for her first round match as well as previous French Open champion Li Na.

Richard Gasquet and Bernard Tomic will play each other, which could prove to be a good match to watch.

Also, Caroline Wozniacki returns to the court after a bit of recent personal turmoil.

Sloane Stephens is also scheduled to play her first round match.
