(KSDK) – After a tumultuous first few days of the French Open, Thursday seemed to "right the course" in those favored to win.
World No. 1 Rafael Nadal got through his match in straight sets over Dominic Thiem (6-2, 6-2, 6-3). The King of Clay showed his finesse on the court with 19 unforced errors and winning 91 total points.
He'll face Leonardo Mayer in the third round.
Top-ranked Andy Murray also eased through his second round match 6-3, 6-1, 6-3.
The Americans had a favorably good day, too.
In a head-to-head battle between Jack Sock and Steve Johnson, Sock won the duel (7-5, 6-4, 6-2).
American Donald Young overcame No. 26 Feliciano Lopez to win his match in straight set wins and send him into the third round too.
On the women's side of the draw, Alison Riske and Coco Vandeweghe could not overcome their opponents in a couple of tough losses, but the next highest-ranked woman Sloane Stephens got through her match easily (6-1, 6-3).
Teenager Taylor Townsend punched her ticket to the third round Wednesday in her defeat of Alize Cornet.
Serbians Jelena Jankovic and Ana Ivanovic also won their matches as well as Frenchman Gael Monfils.
