WATERLOO, Ill. (KSDK) – Snow made for slick conditions in parts of Illinois Friday, including Monroe County.

So, the Illinois Department of Transportation had its trucks out in full force, plowing, and laying down salt and chemicals. Illinois State Police say the effort seems to have helped keep drivers safe. By 2 p.m. Friday, the Collinsville troop had only been called to six accidents beginning at 6 a.m.

That number is a vast improvement from Thursday morning, when ISP worked more than two dozen accidents within a five hour period. Troopers say they think drivers had gotten more used to the conditions by Friday, and the roads were less treacherous since there was more snow than ice.
