ALTON, Ill. (KSDK) – Some of the heaviest snow we've seen in the area is on the Illinois side of the river.

The worst of the snow was over as of 5 p.m., but it's now bitterly cold and windy in Alton – with gusts reaching 35 miles per hour.

Brian Youst has been plowing downtown Alton for two decades, and he says this storm is historic because of the wind and bitter cold.

Britteny Lucas had to leave her home to buy diapers and ended up getting stuck. NewsChannel 5's Leisa Zeigman hooked her up with the snow plow guys and all is well.

Parts of Madison County had about 10 inches of snow – and totals could end up at about 13 inches. Sunday night will bring life-threatening wind chills that could reach 35 below!
