BARNHART, Mo. – The Missouri Department of Transportation has closed Route M in both directions in Jefferson County.

The Glaize Creek has flooded, causing water to cover Route M between Interstate 55 in Barnhart and Route 61 in Imperial.

Drivers should use an alternate route.

Remember: "Turn around, don't drown." Never drive through water. As little as 10 inches of water can carry a vehicle.

Gov. Jay Nixon declared a state of emergency Thursday after severe weather moved through the area causing damage statewide. More severe weather is expected Thursday afternoon and evening.
