ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – Thousands in the St. Louis metropolitan area woke up without power Tuesday morning after a complex of thunderstorms passed through the area the night prior.

The storms caused down trees and power lines late Monday night into Tuesday morning.

As of 7 a.m., more than 12,000 remained without power throughout the St. Louis area, according to Ameren Missouri, with a majority of outages in north St. Louis County as well as many near Affton. There's also more than 800 power outages in Illinois, according to Ameren.

According to NewsChannel 5 meteorologists, rain is expected to taper off throughout Tuesday morning and be dry in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to be in the mid to upper 80s.
