ST. LOUIS – There will be big heat Saturday afternoon, and will likely be followed by big storms in the evening, thanks to yet another surge of cool air typical to any season except mid-summer.
A Heat Advisory remains in effect through 7 p.m. with highs in the upper 90s and the heat index running between 100 and 108 degrees.
WEATHER: First Alert Forecast
Late Saturday afternoon storms could move in north of the metro and those storms should then spread east. Some could work their way to the south and get into the metro by early evening, especially for areas along and north of Interstate 70.
There's a slight chance storms in the metro area could be severe, but a better chance for severe weather will be in the northern and eastern portions of the NewsChannel 5 viewing area. The severe weather threat will include large hail and damaging winds.
By midnight the best change for storms should be east of St. Louis and the threat of storms anywhere over after 3 a.m.
Sunday will be cooler with a chance for showers in the morning and then partly sunny skies with highs near 90.
